New Zealand

Hello Guys, we have finally arrived in New Zealand. After a flight which seemed to last an eternity, we are here. For the past couple of days we have studying NZ Air Law. Which we have the exam on Wednesday, should be ok hopefully, then we start flying at the end of Next week !!.

We also got our Module 2 Exam results a couple of days after we arrived. I passed 6/7, but failed General Navigation by 1 mark, got 74%. The Resit is in May, so got some time to revise for it. Hopefully, this time round I will be ok with a bit more revision.

Will Post again, next week after my first Flight. Bye for Now..

Exams Over!

Exams are Over!!!.. We had are last exam on Thursday, Human Performance. Since then we have just been chilling out doing nothing. I forgot what it is like to relax and to take a break from everything. We are flying out to New Zealand on the 20th, so not long now to go.

I think the exams went ok, mass and balance was hard but I feel confident on the other 6. Hopefully, I can get them all out of the way soon, and concentrate on flying the aircraft.

Also we wound out or accommodation details this week, and I was fortunate enough to get  Clearways. Clearways has some good facilities on site, including a Gym etc.

Anyway,  I am off for now to pack for home, but will post again when we arrive in NZ !!

The Final Straight

Once again, Sorry for not posting for a long time. Been bogged down in so much work its unreal. Since my last post we have completed Human Performance. Today I received my re-sit result of Principles of Flight and I passed. Out of the Way now, so I can concentrate on my Module 2 Exams. We are currently on our revision period until our exams so been working really hard, trying to get as much work done as possible. Secondly, we have been given our departure date to New Zealand, the 20th March. Not long now!

Had our Mocks this week and they went okay. I didn't pass all of them but the ones I did fail I did not get below 70%, so hopefully with a bit of extra work, can get my act together.

Anyway, that's it for now, will post again, after the Exams on the 4th March.

Radio Navigation

Here we are once again, starting another ATPL Subject. This time it is Radio Navigation or 'RNav'. So far it has been an expansion of what we have covered in Communications, and from other subjects. News from other courses have said that it is about knowing the facts and not necessarily spending hours on end knowing the topic inside out. We have too many other subjects to worry about to be able to do that with every subject.

I also have sent off my Visa application for New Zealand. Seems so close now. We are all very excited, but it wont seem real until we get on that flight on the 20th March. Exams are my main priority at the moment. Secondly, we were lucky enough to have another simulator session on Thursday. Click here to check out the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpRSFy19_FI

Flight Planning

Well, Flight Planning. So far it has been  really interesting, lots of chart work, plotting points and reading different Nav Aids.

However, I am led to believe that it becomes much harder. We touched altimetry today which we have not covered since Meteorology, and was a bit rusty on some formula.

Only a couple for Module 2 subjects left to do, then It is off to New Zealand for 8 months. Can not wait! But need to pass these Exams first and get my head down. Anyway, See you next time in R-Nav (Radio Navigation).

Mass and Balance

Today we have just finished Mass and Balance, it was only two days, but there was quite a lot of things to take into account. However, in the Mass and Balance exam we are given a CAP, which contains many of the facts we need to know, but not remember!

This picture here kinda explains it all really, the whole reason for calculating the mass and balance of the aircraft is to prevent these kind of things from happening. Working out where the centre of gravity is, changes with Fuel, passengers, cargo, crew, cabin crew etc. Many things to take into account but at the end of the day, an aircraft performance solely rely's on the balance being correct.

Anyway, just two more days of GNav, then I am off for Christmas until the 2nd, where it all continues once again.

General Navigation

We started General Navigation recently, it seems interesting. Using all the charts and graphs is much more hands on than the subjects we did in module 1.    It does test your maths quite a lot, as there are many variables to factor in and you need to be sharp with it all.

We have a revision day today, but we start again on Monday with performance, then G Nav for the rest of the week.
